Vintage Baseball Footage from Advanced Media Integration: Yankees vs. Tigers
Recently, while transferring some old reels of 8mm film to DVD, we came across some vintage footage of a baseball game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. In the footage, shot in 1958 at the old Briggs Stadium, later known as Tiger Stadium, you can see many hall of fame players. Notable players in the film include; Al Kaline, George Kell, and Jim Bunning for the Detroit Tigers, and manager Casey Stengel, Enon Slaughter, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, and Yogi Berra for the Yankees. With our client’s permission and the new baseball season underway, we wanted to share this vintage baseball footage.
1958 Detroit Tigers: Managed by both Jack Tighe and Bill Norman, the Detroit Tigers finished with a record of 77-77. While the team featured several future hall of fame players, including Al Kaline and George Kell, the team finished a distant 5th place to the eventual World Series Champion New York Yankees.
1958 New York Yankees: Managed by the legendary Casey Stengel, the 1958 New York Yankees would roll through the regular season and defeat the Milwaukee Braves in game seven of the World Series. Stocked with talent at nearly every position, the 1958 Yankees featured such players as catcher Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and the Great Mickey Mantle.
