How to Make a Video Montage Out of Your Old Home Videos
You may think there’s not much point keeping old home videos. After all, no one really takes the time to watch them anymore. But there are many occasions on which you might want to bring out these home videos and show them to your friends and family.
Video Montages for Birthdays and Anniversaries
For example, if you’re having an anniversary party for your parents, why not do a little collage of old home videos, bringing together all the best moments in their lives? It’s easy to do this if your home videos are in electronic format, but you wouldn’t be able to do it if they were on VHS.
Going Through Your Home Videos Chronologically
Choose a number of different clips over the years. For example, if you’re organizing your parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, you can take some videos from their wedding (or photos, if there was no video from that time.) Then go through all the videos they might have taken after that. These might be from family vacations or just memorable events at home.
Picking Happy, Humorous Clips for Your Montage
Try to pick videos in which everyone looks happy. After all, there’s not much point in embarrassing people on their birthdays and anniversaries! But if there are some good, humorous moments in the videos, you can include those as well.
Adding a Voiceover or Background Music
It’s also a good idea, if you have access to a film editor, to add a voiceover which tells the viewer a little bit about the journey those people have had over the years. Or, if you prefer, you can add a little bit of background music to make the video a little bit like a music video.
Making DVD Copies for Your Guests
In addition to showing your video montage at the party, why not make a DVD copy of the video for everyone who is present at the party? You can include it in your goody bags for your guests.
